Hello, welcome to my column this week. I am glad to be reporting back from the Sportscard National in Chicago. To my surprise, Topps was NOT there. I thought it would have been a great way to promote eTopps... Guess I was wrong. Anyway, I did talk to the reps from Upper Deck, and they couldn't comment on whether or not they were going to do something similar to eTopps.
Finally, for this weeks Under the Radar, I will pick up to 2 cards from each sport that have the most potential to rise in value.
Baseball
Well, many of us got to see (2001) Barry Bonds hit home run #600 this past Friday night. This is a part of history. I would invest in this card in a heartbeat. Will he hit 156 more homers? This card is worth buying, because with Barry Bonds, he might just do it in 2005.
Football
I believe 2000 Marshall Faulk has the most potential this upcoming football season to rise. We all know what he can do. I hope my Eagles will be able to stop him in the NFC Championship Game. Now, after travelling to Chicago, and listening to their Sports Radio and how he has "fresh" wide receivers to throw to, my 2nd choice for under the radar has to go to 2001 Brett Favre.
Basketball
My favorite sport is basketball. I truly believe the Cavaliers are going to be very improved this year. They have two young super stars in the making. DaJaun Wagner and (2001) Darius Miles. There are less then 800 copies of this eTopps card of Miles. GREAT BUY! As I am writing this article, I just found out Keon Clark has signed with the Sacramento Kings. So, my 2nd choice would have to be 2001 Chris Webber. With Keon playing alongside Webber, I feel that Webber will be in the 2002-2003 Finals. This is what he needed and I will be buying more Webbers.
Hockey
I do not know enough of hockey. Looking at 2001 baseball and football IPO's, I believe short prints are the way to go. I would buy 2001 Owen Nolan and 2001 John LeClair.
