Q: When did you start collecting "regular" sports cards? Do you still?
A: Regular cards as a young kid. I stopped for several years until about 30. Then I started to pick up some cards strictly for players
from Orioles. Mostly of Cal Ripken. Only Orioles or players from second favorite team, the COLTS.
Q: Who are your favorite players and teams?
A: Favorite player is still Cal Ripken even though he is retired. Need I say more? In football I collect Manning, James, Wayne
and Harrison cardboard. Favorite teams are the Orioles and Colts (both were winning teams when I was growing up). I didn't like the Yankees from my area because at that time they stunk. I also follow the Nets and Devils because they are less than 10 miles away from my house in the Swamp.
Q: How big is your portfolio? (sounds kinky... lol)
A: 337 cards and counting.
Q: Do you consider yourself to be a trader/investor/collector or some combination?
A: I'm a small collector mostly collecting present and players from my favorite teams. Most of my duplicates are from these palyers. I also try to collect three of my favorite players. One for me and one for each of my two boys.
Q: When did you join eTopps?
A: I was in on the initial trial of eTopps. I guess you could consider me an "old-timer".
Q: How did you hear about eTopps?
A: I went to the Topps website to see if I could bypass dealers and stores in order to get the cards and sets I wanted (instead of paying high prices at local card shows or card stores). I saw an advertisement for a new introductory series of internet football cards. I was then selected to participate in a trial of this new venture.
Q: What were your smartest IPO and aftermarket card buys?
A: Well, since I was one of the test members, my smartest IPO buys were then: (10) 2000 Peyton Mannings and (10) 2000 Edgerrin James with a couple of 2000 Smiths, Faulks, Warners, Mosses, Culppeppers and my (1) 2000 George. My smartest buys on eBay were getting (10) 2001 Tiki Barbers in portfolio for $29.52, (5) 2001 Reggie Waynes in portfolio for $24.27 and approximately (15) 2001 Richard Jeffersons in portfolio on 5 separate auctions for less that $5 each. Also getting (6) 2000 Warners in hand for about $34.
Q: Which eTopps buys do you wish you could do over?
A: I wish I would have checked my credit card information when eTopps finished the test lauch and went with their new site. When moving my credit card info, the information was transferred incorrectly and I lost out on the very first 2001 baseball IPO. I missed the IPO of my favorite player, Cal Ripken, and several other players that I had ordered big time. Boy was I upset!
Q: Where do you see eTopps years from now?
A: Still here and going strong. Card prices will level out. New people will continue to join. Old timers who left will come back. eTopps will still be the #1 market for e-sportscards.
Q: What is your favorite eTopps card?
A: 2001 Cal Ripken, of course.
Q: Which eTopps card would you recommend as a solid "investment"?
A: Cal Ripken and any of the 2000 football cards.
Q: How would you change the eTopps program, if at all?
A: Don't allow multiple eTopps account to buyers. That would keep everyone on the same playing field. Allow trading between portfolios
only. Also, have eTopps give out in-hand totals.
Q: Why do you collect eTopps cards?
A: eTopps allows me to pick and choose what players I want without having to buy a lot of packs with players I will never keep. Of course I also
like the idea of possibly selling cards I speculated on in auctions. Additionally, I find the cards I have in-hand are great-looking cards.
