IPO InsightC. Brown, Carr, Dillon, Key. Johnson,
Rice, Robertson, St. Pierre, Ja. White

By Jeff West (e-mail)

Brian St. Pierre (2,500 @ $6.50)Brian St. Pierre 2003 eTopps

As a rookie QB coming out of Boston College, Brian is looking to make a name for himself in the NFL. From the looks of things he will be waiting for awhile. He is now the 2nd string QB behind Tommy Maddox and is unlikely to see playing time this year, barring injury. Personally, I think this card is way overpriced and should have been a $4 IPO since he won't be playing -- but what do i know, right? All I can figure is eTopps is way too optimistic and needs to get a grip. From what I hear he has overtaken Charlie Batch for the 2nd string spot (so that has to count for something). This may be a decent pickup on eBay way under the inflated IPO price.

Chris Brown (2,500 @ $6.50)Chris Brown 2003 eTopps

This pile-pushing hard-nosed running back should have no problem establishing himself in the NFL as soon as he steps out of Eddie George's shadow. Nobody knows when George will hang up his well-worn cleats but rest assured Tennessee fans - you have a very capable backup ready to take his place. He rushed for 1,841 yards last year for Colorado and should fit in nicely with the Titans offense. At $6.50 I'd say that eTopps is being a little optimistic. I think this is about a $4 - $5 card so buy it on eBay.

Corey Dillon (2,000 @ $4.00)Corey Dillon 2003 eTopps

Corey has seen his best days come and go. In his less than stellar performance in game 1 last Sunday he rushed for 34 yards and averaged 2.4 yards a carry. He still has the ability to light up a defense for close to 200 yards in a game but for every one game he plays like that we see two or three like we saw on Sunday. That being said I cannot and will not pass on a $4 card of a star that will most likely sell around 1,000 cards.

David Carr (3,000 @ $6.50)David Carr 2003 eTopps

This guy is on the rise and will most likely be a premiere quarterback in the NFL very soon. He played well on Sunday and with the improved offensive line he will most likely have a very good season. With the cap of 3,000 cards this should be a decent card. We will likely see the Prior syndrome attacking this card (if you don't know what I mean go check the price of the '03 Mark Prior and the downward plunge it has taken), though the $6.50 price tag should help. I'm going to pick one up at IPO since it should have a good print run and it looks great. I don't care if it loses value.

Dewayne Robertson (5,000 @ $6.50)Dewayne Robertson 2003 eTopps

Somebody explain to me why the Bears traded their pick to the Jets when they could have had this guy... Especially when they were going to let Ted Washington go? Well, aside from that, this guy is sure to be a defensive workhorse and solidify the Jets defense. Whether he really is to be known as "Baby Sapp" remains to be seen. But this guy is a solid defensive pick up for $6.50.

Jamel White (2,500 @ $4.00)Jamel White 2003 eTopps

Hmmm... I really haven't made my mind up on White as a player. He hasn't shown me anything that makes me think he is a special player or even a future star. He has never had a solid year in the NFL and is now behind a superstar-in-the-making in William Green. At $4 this could possibly be a good pickup for the future but I don't see much upside unless Green gets hurt. Pick it up on eBay.

Jerry Rice (2,000 @ $6.50)Jerry Rice 2003 eTopps

What can I tell you about Jerry Rice that you don't already know? Well, the answer is not much. This guy is entering his 19th year and is 40 years old. This guy is one of, if not THE best wide receiver ever to play in the NFL. He put up good numbers last year even though some said he was washed up (1,211 yard doesn't qualify as washed up to me). From the previous print runs we have seen this is sure to be a card that will see long term appreciation. I'm buying one and so should you. IT'S JERRY RICE!!!! Enough said.

Keyshawn Johnson (1,500 @ $4.00)Keyshawn Johnson 2003 eTopps

Are you kidding me?? 1,500 at $4??? What a deal!! This card is sure to succeed, if not now then in the near future. And that's assuming it sells 1,500 copies. Keyshawn looked very sharp on Sunday catching 6 passes for 83 yards and he may have finally matured. He is a huge target and will lead the Bucs deep into the playoffs again this year. He is enthusiastic, cocky and downright quick -- all great qualities in a wide out and even better as a collectible. BUY AT IPO!
