So it's week three of the NFL and the season is off to a hot start. This is evident in the incredibly high television ratings that have been recorded as of yet. We've had some high highs…Carr's impressive first start against the Cowboys, Priest Holmes and his four TD's on opening weekend and three excellent overtime matches, as well as the maturation of Michael Vick into what seems to be a big time NFL player. We've also had some low lows…the Cowboys getting beat by the expansion Texans (first time an expansion team has opened up with a victory since the 1961 Vikes), the Rams and Steelers both conference favorites and both off to an 0-2 start and of course, big, bad Dwayne Rudd…even his son hates him (don't tell him I said that…he is large).
It's also week three for the etopps football IPO's and here's what we have:
Jamal Lewis (6,000 @ $6.50)
Coming back from ACL surgery, Lewis is looking solid. However, the Ravens offense looks about as likely to score as Gilbert Gottfried. This is Lewis's second card, so it doesn't have much value in my mind.
Aaron Brooks (5,000 @ $6.50)
He says he's a better passer than his cousin, Michael Vick. However, he admits he's not as fast. Let's put it this way, if the value of Brooks's card depended on what he thought of himself, he would put the 2k1 Banks to shame. He's looking good so far this year, but he has a lot to prove for a guy who has said that he is the best quarterback in his draft class (one that includes a personal favorite on and off the field…Donovan McNabb).
Anthony Thomas (6,000 @ $6.50)
The A-Train is off to a slow start despite scoring a TD in his first two efforts. This guy is full of promise and is sure to improve as the season progresses. This is his second IPO however, so I am not sure on how much it will be worth.
Cliff Russell (3,000 @ $4.00)
A rookie with $4, low ipo print is always promising to investors of etopps. Russell is a rookie out of Utah, who tore his knee up during training camp this year. However, being a lightning quick receiver, he may still have lots of promise once he returns to action.
Jabar Gaffney (5,000 @ $6.50)
This Texan receiver out of Florida is a big 6'1" and 193 pounds. He hasn't shown much in his brief NFL career, but I have a feeling that in years to come you will hear the word, "touchdown from Carr to Gaffney" many times.
Matt Hasselbeck (3,000 @ $6.50)
If you're wondering why this poor excuse for a quarterback is included in this year's ipo's, you're not alone. Hasselbeck belongs in the set about as much as Browning Nagle does.
