Last week we were
able to start off the new 2002 Football IPOs in eTopps with a bang by offering a
David Carr and two "short-prints" (in some people’s mind) in Walker and Plummer.
This week's IPOs however are a much weaker selection than the first week.
Tom Brady
(5,000 @ $9.50)
Tom Brady the
Super Bowl Champion! Tom Brady the most over-hyped eTopps card of 2002! Personally
I think the Pats were just a fluke and they will not repeat this year. Brady
will not have an MVP-type season and he will not lead the Pats to another Super
Bowl. I’m not trying to scare people about Brady. He has the potential and the
skills to be a little bit better than your average quarterback but only that.
The $9.50 price tag with Brady is simply there to cheat out all the newbies out
there who have only heard of Brady because of the Super Bowl. I would not take
Brady this week but if you want I would take a maximum of 1.
Kendrell Bell
(5,000 @ $6.50)
Wow, a defensive
lineman having an eTopps card? No way! I am not too familiar with Bell but he
was last year’s defensive rookie of the year. He recorded 82 tackles last year
with 9 sacks. I’m not too big on Bell so I would save your $6.50 and move that
into someone else.
T.J. Duckett
(6,000 @ $6.50)
"Go right through for MSU, watch the points keep growing"... Sorry I had to add that there. I live
5 minutes away from MSU so I’ve heard about T.J. Duckett for a long time now.
Seeing as how Jamal Anderson is out of Atlanta, Duckett will be the star
running back, right? Not quite. With the offseason acquisition of Dunn, Duckett
will now have to share/backup with Dunn so don’t expect such a great year from
T.J. Don’t get me wrong he’ll have a good year but Dunn will most likely be the
man for the job in Atlanta. I would take 1-2 of T.J. as I see him being a star
running back for the Falcons in the future.
Chris Chambers
(4,000 @ $6.50)
Selected by the Dolphins in the second round comes from Wisconsin. Last year as a rookie he
played from the bench for the Dolphins recording 48 receptions with 18.4 YPC
(yards per catch). Chambers is still trying to establish himself in the NFL so I
wouldn’t look for too much of a return in the upcoming weeks.
Travis Stephens
(4,000 @ $4.00)
I don’t know too
much about Stephens, he’s just another rookie in this week’s IPO. He had one
breakout game last year in college against Florida, but after that I’m not too
such what else he has accomplished. With Warrick Dunn out of Tampa Bay Stephens
might have a much greater role this year. For only $4.00 I’d take my chances
on him.
Vinny Testaverde
(3,000 @ $6.50)
A 15-year veteran
and with only a 3,000 print run, Testaverde may be the sleeper of the week.
Granted the past few years for the Jets haven’t been so good for Vinny he’s not
a bad quarterback that will falter like Ryan Leaf. Vinny has already established
himself in the league and at a $6.50 tag he looks like a good buy.
Chambers: Low-Mid
Rotation; I’d save up for someone bigger
Bell: Low-Mid Rotation; I’d save up for someone bigger
Duckett: Mid-High Rotation; A future star, might pay dividends in years to come
Brady: Mid Rotation; Over-rated may turn out to be a bust with $9.50 IPO
Stephens: Low-Mid Rotation; For only $4.00 not too bad, better than a Bud Smith
Testaverde: High Rotation; Possible Sleeper
