"I love Brian Piccolo, and I'd like all of you to love him. When you hit your knees to pray tonight, please ask God to love him, too." These famous words were spoken by Gayle Sayers as he accepted the NFL’s Most Courageous Player Award for 1970. Despite this being one of the best stories ever, this card still lacks a lot. The “PIC” will never be in the Hall of Fame. His on-the-field performance was based on a disciplined work ethic he developed at Wake Forest. He was out to prove he could make the team and contribute. Then you look at the other aspects and see he was drafted the same year as Gayle Sayers. He roomed with Sayers to be the first inter-racial roommates. He went on to star when Sayers got hurt. Sayers has nothing but the utmost respect for Brian, as did most players in the NFL. This is a great card but it should not be as heavily sought-after as others due to a marginal career. However he is more famous than players like Bednarek and Baugh. So watch this card closely! BUY!
“Too Tall” was the first overall pick in the 1974 draft, by the Dallas Cowboys, out of Tennessee State. After playing only four years, Ed retired in 1979 to pursue a Boxing career. He was 6-0 in his boxing career but chose to return to the Cowboys in 1980. He played with the Cowboys until his eventual retirement in 1989. His presence during those final 10 years was monumental. He made three Pro Bowl appearances and led the Cowboys to 10 playoff berths. He was so unique that the NFL created a new statistic after him, the deflected pass. Today his presence is still remembered by the Cowboys and it can be seen in the play of today’s young players. His eventual selection to the Hall of Fame was a “No Brainer.” A good card and a good price, BUY!
