IPO InsightGardner, Manning, M. Morris,
Portis, Warrick, Weinke

By Randy Ip

It's hard to believe the football season is half over. After surveying this week's batch of IPOs, it doesn't look like the selection of eTopps football IPOs will improve until next Monday.

Peyton Manning (5,000 @ $9.50)

Wow! Another high-priced 3rd year issue! eTopps didn't even have the decency to reduce the print run! With 5,000 available for $9.50 I would AVOID this card. Moss was at least only 3,000 and people should've avoided him too. Avid fans of Manning would be better served picking this one up on the eBay Trading Floor.

Chris Weinke (3,000 @ $4.00)

After starting 15 games for the Panthers last year as a rookie Weinke lost his starting job to Rodney Peete. That's right - Rodney Peete. Peete, at age 36, was given the starting nod over Weike. Even though Peete went down with an injury Weinke started only one game before rookie Randy Fasani, out of Standford, took over. If you're not a fan, steer clear of this one.

Maurice Morris (4,000 @ $6.50)

Morris is our other rookie for the week. He is not as strong a buy as Portis since he is a backup to Shaun Alexander currently. With only 16 carries all year (2 per game) he has rushed for 83 yards (5.2 yards per carry). I think he will be a good pick-up mainly since this is his rookie issue.

Clinton Portis

Clinton Portis (6,000 @ $6.50)

This is the strong card this week folks. Rookie sensation Clinton Portis is this week's buy. Portis had Rookie of the Year written all over him coming into this season and his 562 rushing yards in eight games speaks to his potential. Though he has a fairly high print run I think he will only jump in price if/when he wins ROY.

Rod Gardner (4,000 @ $6.50)

The leading receiver for the 'Skins this year, Gardner has collected 461 yards with 32 receptions. This is Gardner's second issue (his first issue had a PR of 510) so fans of his might want to pick one up. If I was a fan of his I would just spend $20 more to get his 510 print run rookie card.

Peter Warrick (3,000 @ $6.50)

Warrick showed great promise as a wide-receiver out of Florida State but has since put up unimpressive numbers. He's a member of the Cincinnati Bengals who have displayed amazing proficiency at losing football games. To top it all off, this is already his 3rd eTopps card already! My advice is to do what the Bengals can't - Pass!

Portis (High): This week's hottest buy
Morris (Mid-High): A solid rookie with a good future
Gardner (Mid): May want to shy away - don't be expecting big profits from him
Weinke (Low-Mid): I'm a fan of his so I'm picking one up since it's only $4 but if your not a fan I'd look elsewhere
Warrick (Low): Another third year issue - at least he's not $9.50 with a PR of 5,000
Manning (Low): A third year issue at $9.50 doesn't excite me in the least
