IPO InsightM. Allen, Dorsett

By Sean Cook (e-mail)

Tony Dorsett (1,000 @ $12.50)Tony Dorsett 2003 eTopps

Tony was an excellent back that changed Johnny Majors and the Pittsburgh team forever; going from a 1-10 record, in 1973, to the NCAA DIV I National Champions, in three years. As a freshman Tony ran for 1,586 yards, setting a freshman record. In all, Dorsett went on to set numerous records including total yards and points by a back, which have since been broken, and he also set a total of 36 different Pittsburgh records. Tony also won the Headsmen and Walter Camp trophies in 1976. When he went to Dallas in 1977 he was the NFL rookie of the year at the start of his great NFL career. He went on to be enshrined in the NFL Hall of Fame and College football Hall of Fame. In a Hall of Fame career, Dorsett ran for 12,739 yards and 77 touchdowns in his 12-year career with Dallas and Denver. He also caught 398 passes for 3,554 yards and 13 scores. If you are one to compare Marcus with Tony, College Football News ranked Marcus # 54 and Tony #23 of all-time. His eTopps card has a lot of potential, especially with the low PR's of today's cards. With the hot demand for Classic cards you should not pass on this card. BUY.

Marcus Allen (1,000 @ $12.50)Marcus Allen 2003 eTopps

This is the great back who filled Charles Whites' shoes at USC and eventually led them to a National Championship and earned the Heisman Trophy. Marcus was originally a defensive back in college after being a QB in high school. He was moved to FB and blocked for White during his impressive career. Marcus then got the spotlight his junior year and tore it up from there on out. Selected by the Los Angeles Raiders, and the third overall back out of college (behind Darrin Nelson and Gerald Riggs), Marcus is remembered for being one of the best goal line runners ever (well, maybe next to "Sweetness"). Allen ran for a record 123 touchdowns over his 16 years in the league with the Los Angeles Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs. He carried the ball 3,022 times for 12,243 yards. This cad is another must-have in the long line of eTopps Classics. As long as Classics carry such value on the secondary market, you can't not pick one up. BUY.
