Would you believe that it's already Week 7 in the NFL? I hope the rest of your fantasy teams are doing better than mine. I have a pretty good team, but for some reason whoever I play has their best week when they play me. Okay, I know this is not the column for discussing my fantasy football rants. However, I hope you read my article on fantasy sleepers from a few weeks ago. It's not perfect, but if you took Travis Henry or Peerless Price, you'd be doing quite well with them. But I also told you to stay away from Ladainian Tomlinson and he has been very good. I also told you to avoid Jamal Lewis and he has looked strong! I am very surprised by Lewis' performance, yet very happy to see that it is possible to recover from an ACL injury.
It's also Week 7 for the eTopps football IPO's and here's what we have:
Donovan McNabb (5,000 @ $9.50)
What a season this guy is having! After seeing what McNabb's workout regimen in the off-season consists of (all kinds of wacky stuff!), I had to have this guy on my fantasy squad. The guy is a workhorse, determined to make his mark on the NFL. He has performed well enough to be labeled a top five player and looks to be a star for years to come. $9.50 may look like a lot for a 2nd year issue, but Donovan McNabb is worth every penny.
Julius Peppers (6,000 @ $6.50)
This #1 draft pick out of North Carolina has given a new definition to the term "learning curve". He has shown tremendous growth week after week, playing for the surprising Panthers. As a defensive player, I don't put much stock in his worth as an eTopps issue. However, he may be worth a card or two.
Ladainian Tomlinson (5,000 @ $9.50)
Back to the guy who is making me eat my words. I thought that the Chargers would have worn this guy down by forcing him to carry the ball so much last year. However, he is making me look silly week after week by trucking over d-backs like they were grammar school children (and a block or two from Tim Dwight doesn't hurt either!). This is Tomlinson's second card however and it is expensive at $9.50. The demand will be there and this card will sell out to all of the people who didn't get in on his 1st issue.
Mike McMahon (4,000 @ $4.00)
All I can say is "waste of a spot". There are so many more players who could have been picked to have a card, yet this backup quarterback is blessed with the honor. With that said, I hope Mrs. McMahon can accept my apologies. I am sure your son is a nice guy and probably a good athlete, but we don't need his image on another eTopps card.
Rohan Davey (3,000 @ $6.50)
This is a card sure to be a winner for two reasons. Short print and rookie. Davey is Tom Brady's backup so that means you won't see his face much unless you buy his IPO or Mo Lewis knocks out Brady's lungs. I would get this issue.
Tony Gonzalez (4,000 @ $6.50)
Every time this guy makes a catch, I say the same thing…best player in the NFL. Okay, maybe not. However, he has become one of the best receiving tight ends in the game and in my opinion, only numbers separate Gonzalez from the likes of Sharpe, Winslow and Newsome. His talent is immeasurable and he will only get better (unless he decides to flake out and go play hoops or something).
See ya next week! Good Luck!
