Raymond Berry kicks off (pardon the pun) this week's Classic football IPOs. A hush has fallen over the eTopps crowd that is anticipating these cards... All kidding aside, Raymond Berry had an exceptional career in pro football. During 13 seasons with the Baltimore Colts, Berry caught 631 passes for 9,275 yards and 68 touchdowns. His hard work and determination were unmatched. When he retired after the 1967 season, he held the all-time record for most receptions (631) and yards receiving (9,275). Both records have since been broken. In 1984 Berry took over as coach of the New England Patriots. He led them to Super Bowl in 1985 where they were crushed by the Chicago Bears 46-10. Yes, this card is an SP-candidate. If you prefer gambling on sports cards rather than casino games, have a ball. Just realize that you are part of the overproduction problem that is plaguing the eTopps market. Too many cards produced at IPO means lower secondary market values for everyone. Unless you plan to hold onto it, DON'T BUY this card.
Regardless of your age, if you follow football you've heard of Johnny Unitas. However, many fans are unaware he was originally signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1955. Pittsburgh cut him from the team and he then signed with the Colts. The rest is NFL history. That is, the most touchdown passes (290), completions (2,830), total yards (40,239), and 300-yard games (26) in NFL history at the time of his retirement. Those records have since been broken as the game has evolved. Until the IPO system further evolves to discourage flipping, cards like this will be unattractive buys at IPO. Pick one up on eBay. DON'T BUY this card.
