Sean Perri calls it a "Bargain"
A year ago, Marc Bulger, playing the role of third string quarterback, felt like an outsider on a St. Louis Rams team that made it to the big dance.
A year later, Bulger found himself again in the role of third string QB. However, 2002 was more kind to him. After an injury to former MVP Kurt Warner and so-so play by then-backup Jamie Martin, Bulger was thrust into the driver's seat of what was once called "the Greatest Show on Earth". The show didn't start in 2002 until Bulger was handed the reins.
Marc Bulger was an instant success, despite the fact that he was not expected to do more than keep Kurt Warner's spot filled for the moment. Additionally, Bulger was just what the Rams sagging offense was in need of. Going into week 16 Marc Bulger has won each game that he has started and has looked very good while doing it. Through six games, he has thrown 14 TD's and only 6 INT's, while passing for 1,815 yards. He also sports a QB rating of 101.4. Not too shabby for a guy who was drafted in the sixth round of the 2000 draft (by the Saints).
Maybe it's beginner's luck. Maybe it's a coincidence that he and a certain Hall of Fame quarterback both attended the same Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Catholic high school. But Bulger is looking very good and as Kurt Warner has recently been placed on IR, there is no longer a QB controversy (which is good for Coach Martz… the less he thinks, the better off he seems to be). Bulger will man the controls for the final two games and while they don't mean much for the Rams, they may mean a job for the ex-Hokie.
Being that this is Marc Bulger's first print, I say GET IT! This guy could be a star for years to come. A 3,000 print run for the first card of a potential star is not bad at all these days! In addition, he is in an offense that seems to replenish their superstars like J-Lo replenishes husbands. Surrounded by the likes of Isaac Bruce, Marshall Faulk and self-proclaimed "Big Game" Torry Holt, Bulger has more targets than a Navy Seal at an Al-Qaida training base. Buy Marc Bulger - you won't be disappointed!
Jeff West says "Save Your Money"
OK - you may be saying to yourself how can this guy tell me to sell one of the best performing cards in 2002 football? Well, its simple. Marc Bulger's future is in doubt. Will he stay with the Rams next year? Will he be traded? Will he play as well for a worse team that does not have the wide receiver talent that the Rams do?
I believe if he stays with the Rams and Warner gets ready to play he will be right back to being a backup and expect his card to show it! What if he gets traded to a bad team? I don't think he has what it takes to turn a bad team into a good team on his own yet. There are just way too many questions for me to put my money on a quarteback who doesn't have a job to call his own.
If you are a gambling man and don't mind losing money you could make worse purchasing decisions but, for me, I'll stick with guys who have some sort of job security.
